Creating Safe Spaces to Talk about Racism

A Talk by Gillian Neish (she/her) (Principle Consultant, Neish Training)

About this Talk

The murder of George Floyd and the many ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests it triggered, raised everyone’s awareness of racism and its impact as well as a wide range of opinions and strong emotions! Yet many people struggled, and still struggle, to talk, openly and honestly, about it. But if we’re to challenge racism, we must talk about it. In the months since, I’ve held a number of open workshops about ways to create an inclusive culture - and you can’t do that without first exploring the systematic nature of racism. During this session we’ll discuss what I learned about creating psychologically safe places for the essential conversations that, for some, were difficult and uncomfortable.
